The Wine Route
Running 170 kilometres, the Alsace Wine Route links around a hundred villages, from Marlenheim in the north to Thann in the south. Riquewihr, Eguisheim, Kaysersberg and Hunawihr rank among France’s most beautiful: flowered fountains, painted timbered houses and cellars open for tastings. A date by car or bicycle, cellar after cellar, tasting Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris in good spirits.
Castles and Vosges summits
Perched at 755 metres, the Haut-Kœnigsbourg Castle restored under Wilhelm II overlooks the plain: towers, ramparts and drawbridge plunge you into a medieval mood. Higher up, the Vosges summits, Mont Sainte-Odile and the Pagan Wall trail offer accessible hikes. A great way to swap the terrace for walking boots and extend the conversation side by side.
Treats and traditions
Cosy winstubs, crisp flammekueche, freshly salted pretzels and cool white wines: Alsatian tables have the gift of hospitality. In winter, the Christmas markets of Strasbourg, Colmar or Kaysersberg bathe the region in fairy lights. On Lyad, Alsatian members share their secret villages and favourite growers; it is up to you to find someone to start the tour with.
